Q:What causes people to become drug addicts?

ANS:

Family influence: Researches on drug addiction often find that in the growth background of drug addicts parents are at obvious fault, such as have over high expectations, caring too much or not caring at all, too authoritative, too stubborn to communicate with, having different standards, over judgmental or is hostile towards children, low moral standards, lack parent-child relationship, and broken families. Also, people have a higher chance of becoming a drug addict if a family member (parents, spouse, siblings, or uncle) is also a drug addict. Furthermore, researches have also found that some people in rehab turn back to drugs when family influences their emotions. Therefore, care and support from family members are beneficial to rehabilitation.

Personal factors: The interaction of personality, attitude, and antisocial behavior; for example, people who have an antisocial personality, such as keeping a distance from the society and being rebellious, are usually nervous, impetuous, invasive, over energetic, and tend be uncooperative with law enforcers, and will easily get into fights or start using drugs when they are in a bad mood, avoiding something, bored, curious, or looking for some excitement.   In addition, from statistics of drug abusers we know that most have been smoking or drinking at a young age, which causes them to have less self-restraint in later years.

Social form: Work pressure, Utilitarianism, over competition, increase in consumption ability but spiritually emptier.

Peer pressure: He that touches pitch shall be defiled. Start using drugs because of pressure from friends who also use drugs.

Complicated environment: Live or work in an environment where many people do drugs, such as sex industries and communities with many gang members.
