Q: Will my child (person receiving rehabilitation treatment) receive drug therapy in the drug abuser treatment center? If not, what kind of therapy will be used?

ANS:

Treatment courses currently used in the drug abuser treatment center are provided by the Ministry of Justice (please see the Rehabilitation Treatment Courses and Activities Zone of our website for details). Courses are taught in larges classes and supported by a series of individual guidance and group psychotherapy provided by the center’s assistants, clinical psychologist, and social workers. At present, drug therapy is not allowed in the center, unless prescribed by the center’s doctor for treatment of physical or mental illness.

We are currently cooperating with Jianan Mental Hospital and Kaohsiung County Drug Abuser Prevention Center in the promulgation of rehabilitation health education, including the promulgation of the relationship between AIDS and drug addiction, the harm reduction plan, and replacement therapy. If drug therapy is required after leaving the center, we will refer him to a cooperating medical unit after confirmation to help him successfully quit drugs.
